What a wonderful weekend of learning, creativity, and puppetry!
It was so rewarding to see the wonder on the faces of children and adults alike as puppets came to life in the skilled hands of our visiting artists. Along the way, visitors discovered that puppetry is an ancient art form found in cultures around the world, with each generation using puppets to tell stories, share traditions, entertain, and teach. Children experienced that tradition firsthand—learning to manipulate different types of puppets, discovering how they are made and brought to life, creating puppets of their own, and even performing for an audience.
Thank you to our talented puppeteers, volunteers, families, and everyone who joined us for The Art of Puppetry Festival. Together, we celebrated history not just by looking at it, but by experiencing it!

Nina Oberlin
Shadow Streak Productions Animator, filmmaker, and puppeteer from Lafayette, Oregon. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Art Theory and Philosophy at IDSVA and holds degrees in Animation and Cinematography. Founder of Shadow Streak Productions, Nina creates original projects and shares her passion for puppetry through education film, and live performance.

Steve Overton
Portland Puppet Museum Steve Overton has devoted more than 55 years to the art of puppetry. His work has appeared in film, television, theater, and advertising, with credits including George Lucas productions, Grimm, Frank and Zed, and Avenue Q. He is the founder and curator of the Portland Puppet Museum.

Jason Ropp
Dragon Theater Puppets Jason Ropp is founder of Dragon Theater Puppets, celebrating 30 years of original puppet entertainment. He writes, designs, builds, and performs productions for libraries, schools, festivals, and theaters nationwide, and mentors the next generation of puppeteers.

Doug Stephens
Snephets Studio Puppetry Doug Stephens is a Pacific Northwest puppeteer, performer, and educator with a diverse career as a park ranger, videographer, AV producer, and university instructor. A longtime leader in the puppetry community, he inspires audiences through performance,
education, and storytelling. |
Rob H. D’Arc
Pike Place Puppeteer Rob H. D’Arc has entertained audiences as a professional puppeteer for more than 45 years. Founder of Kidstuff Puppet Theatre, he is recognized for advancing the Pop-Up Puppet format through performances, publications, and educational workshops.

Kathy Holley
Parsley & Pals Kathy Holley is an aspiring puppeteer based in Oregon City, Oregon. As a student of Bernd Ogrodnik’s Academy of the Wooden Puppet, Kathy will present a series of stories starring her first three hand-carved puppets. Follow Kathy’s journey into puppetry on Instagram @parsley.n.pals
