Since the Museum took possession of the historic Van Valey House on February 9, 2022, staff and volunteers have been busy working to identify information and items that will be of interest. Featured will be the history of the house itself, items from the Van Valey and Morrow families who called it home, and the Senator Henry M. Jackson Room. Many thanks to Ed and Betty Morrow for this generous gift!

2021 Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of Everett Museum of History was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021, via zoom. The terms of several board members were renewed, and the following officers were elected:
President - Joan Packard
Vice President - Dan Gunderson
Secretary - Mike Duerr
Treasurer - Steven Sterner
Past President - Bill DeGroodt

2020 Annual Meeting
46 people attended the Museum’s Annual Meeting on February 23, 2020, at Hibulb Cultural Center in Tulalip, WA.
Members voted on by-law amendments and elected new board officers. Executive Director Barb George reported on the renovations to the lower level, getting ready for the elevator, and gave us assurances that the Museum will open in 2021.
After the business meeting, guests enjoyed a special presentation by Penny Buse, author of Stuck in the Mud: the History of Warm Beach, Washington. She told interesting stories about the people who settled this area.
Program Manager Chase Dermott described ongoing programs including a musical history of Everett which will be performed by the Everett Chorale on March 29, 2020, at Everett Performing Arts Center.

2019 Annual Recognition Event
Everett Museum of History honored the Woman’s Book Club at its fundraising event on April 25, 2019, to celebrate the Club’s 125-year history of service to Everett. Local historians Roberta Jonnet and Larry O’Donnell told the story of the club’s founding and accomplishments through the years. Special thanks to emcee Bob Drewel and event sponsors The Newland Family, Idamae Schack and Coastal Community Bank.

Everett Museum of History hosted a haunted walking tour podcast in conjunction with the Downtown Everett Association’s Halloween trick-or-treating event on October 31st, 2018. You can still check out the podcast and follow the ghost stories from the downtown Everett core. Sponsorships for this event included Sno-Isle Food Co-op. To kick-off the celebration for Everett’s big 125th birthday, we will be hosting a scavenger hunt with prizes at the official City of Everett event at the Everett Transit Center. Guests will be able to pick up a scavenger hunt worksheet at our booth that will ask questions that can be answered by checking out all the booths at the event, most of which will have historic photos and/or literature available. Completed worksheets will be eligible to enter a drawing for prizes. The event will include something for everyone including a touch a truck opportunity and other fun activities. Come out and celebrate the City’s 125th birthday!!

See which buildings remain from Everett’s earliest days and learn about the ones that no longer exist, as our city has grown and changed dramatically since 1893. Everett Museum of History staff will also be on-hand to showcase amazing artifacts dating back to Everett’s earliest days. This event is part of the City of Everett’s 125th anniversary celebration during the summer of 2018. Co-sponsored with Historic Everett and the Everett Public Library Northwest Room.

We’ll highlight some of the causes of deterioration and then talk in more depth about the preservation do’s and don’ts for common materials including photographs, videos, albums, and clothing. We’ll finish up with some tips on capturing oral interviews so you can preserve those special memories too. Come learn how you can preserve your heirlooms just like the museum!
